Intercontinental The Clement Monterey

We first had booked a Best Western Motel in Carmel, but found a really good rate of around $200 through the Family & Friends discount for Intercontinental Hotels. The hotel was fairly new and was built right in the middle of historic Cannery Row. We didn’t want to use valet parking for $25/night, as street parking around the corner is free from 8PM – 9AM, so we only had to pay $4.50 for the remaining 3 hours. The problem was, that there was no registration parking. Fortunately street parking right in front of the hotel opened up as we arrived.

Check-in was a breeze and we got a room facing Cannery Row on the third floor. I asked for an ocean view room, but there were none available and I didn’t have any status with IHG and paid the cheapest rate, so I expected nothing. We were told that we already got one of the better rooms… As I signed up for IHG the $9.95 Wifi fee was waived.

The room was spacious and everything was still fresh and shiny. It was during the night and in the morning, that we realized it’s cheaply built and we got a crappy room. We turned off the noisy A/C but still heard the neighbours one and at 6AM there was heavy delivery going on on Cannery Row. I would not go there, unless you book an ocean view room, but than I would rather go to Carmel for that kind of money.
