Best Western Plus Cavalier Oceanfront Resort

...a retirement castle on the coast

Our next stop on the Pacific coast was San Simeon to visit Hearst Castle. We stayed in the Best Western Plus Cavalier Oceanfront Resort…uff that’s a long name… I matched my Hilton Diamond Status to Best Western Diamond before the stay and we got a great room on the second floor overlooking the garden and the ocean. It’s a typical motel with parking in front of the room, but with direct beach access.

The room was a little plushy for our liking, but everything really comfy. It was made for the average age of their guests…

The hotel has 2 pools, both of them pretty basic with some loungers and a lift for disabled people. One is located right on the main parking lot and the other one is in the garden.

Probably the best feature of the hotel is the view of the ocean, the sunset, you could watch whales and surfers with the in room binoculars and see people gathering around bonfires in the garden at night.

The views from the rocking chairs on the balcony were just stunning. Dinner in and around the hotel came with a hefty price tag. We got a fat dripping pizza from a place in Cambria for $21… At least it served for dinner, breakfast and lunch … for the two of us.
